A private day trip from Marrakech to Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate takes you over the High Atlas to the most cinematic corner of Morocco. It's a long but hugely rewarding day, and with your own driver you travel in comfort and stop wherever the view demands.

Over the Atlas to the kasbah
The day begins with the climb over the Tizi n'Tichka, Morocco's highest major pass, with sweeping mountain views. On the far side lies Aït Benhaddou, a cluster of earthen towers rising from the riverbank — you can cross the river and walk up through the ksar for the classic view.
Ouarzazate and the studios
A short drive on brings you to Ouarzazate, gateway to the desert and centre of Morocco's film industry. You can visit the Atlas Film Studios or the imposing Taourirt Kasbah before the drive back to Marrakech in the evening.

Frequently asked questions
How long is the day trip?
It's a full day — roughly 4 hours each way — so expect an early start and an evening return. It can also be the first leg of a desert tour.
Can we continue to the desert from here?
Yes. Many travellers turn this into a multi-day trip, continuing to Merzouga and the dunes instead of returning.
Is a guide included?
Your driver takes you there and back and shares plenty of local knowledge; a licensed site guide at the kasbah can be arranged locally if you'd like one.
