Sahara Desert Tour with a Private Driver

Custom Sahara desert tours from Marrakech or Fes — camel treks, desert camps and the kasbah road, at your own pace.

A Sahara desert tour with a private driver is the highlight of most Morocco trips. Instead of a crowded coach and a fixed schedule, you travel in a private, air-conditioned vehicle that stops wherever you like, and you reach the real dunes — the towering sands of Erg Chebbi at Merzouga, or the golden ridges of Erg Chigaga near Zagora.

We run desert tours from both Marrakech and Fes, over two days to a week, always finishing with a camel trek and a night in a desert camp. Tell us how long you have and which comforts matter to you, and we'll design the route around it.

The real dunes

Erg Chebbi at Merzouga — the big, cinematic Sahara, not the small dunes closer to the cities.

The kasbah road

Aït Benhaddou, Todra and Dades gorges and the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs along the way.

A night under the stars

Camel trek at sunset, dinner in a desert camp and a sky with no city glow.

Fully private

Your own driver and vehicle, your own pace, and a route we shape to your dates.

From Marrakech or from Fes

From Marrakech or from Fes

From Marrakech, the desert lies south over the High Atlas — the classic three-day loop to Merzouga and back, or a one-way crossing that ends in Fes. From Fes, the road runs through the Middle Atlas cedar forests and Midelt down the Ziz Valley to the dunes. Both are spectacular; many travellers combine them into a single one-way desert crossing so they never drive the same road twice.

How many days do you need?

How many days do you need?

Three days is the sweet spot to reach Erg Chebbi and enjoy it. Two days only reaches the smaller Zagora dunes. Four to five days add the Draa Valley, Skoura's palm oasis or a slower return. Whatever length you choose, the camel trek and the night in the dunes are always the centrepiece.

Frequently asked questions

Which is better, Merzouga or Zagora?

Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) has the big, classic dunes and is worth the extra driving. Zagora is closer but its dunes are smaller. For a first Sahara trip we recommend Merzouga if you can spare three days.

When is the best time for a desert tour?

Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are ideal. Summer days are very hot; winter nights are cold but clear. We travel year-round and adjust timings to the season.

Are the tours suitable for families?

Yes. Private tours are perfect for families — you control the pace, stops and rest breaks, and camps can arrange family tents.
